What has been added recently, even if you unsubscribed from the product emails.
What's new is the chronicle of changes to the service: new features, rebuilds, detours we got rid of. The newest entry is at the top.
Why the page exists
Product news used to exist only as a broadcast email, and that is unsubscribed with a single click. Whoever did so never heard anything again about the service they pay for. This page needs no consent because you come to it yourself: it is open to you whatever you set under Notifications.
Two markers, two questions
Next to "What's new" there is a number as long as entries have arrived that you have not read. A number rather than a plain dot: "3" tells you whether opening it is worth your time. It disappears once you have opened this page.
If an entry concerns a particular feature, that navigation item additionally carries a "New". It stays until you have been there, and does not disappear merely because you read about it here. Otherwise the signposts would vanish at the very moment you learn where they point.
If we later announce something new in the same place, the "New" comes back. Independently of that it expires after 30 days by itself: a "New" that hangs around for half a year says nothing any more.
Both belong to your account, not to this device. What you read at your desk is read on your phone too.
How often something appears here
Seldom, and then with substance. A chronicle whose last entry is four months old tells you the opposite of what it should, so we would rather write nothing than something trivial.
