FAQ short, honest answers

Frequently asked questions about the MailBridge SMTP relay

What is an SMTP relay?

An SMTP relay is a mail server that accepts your email and forwards it on behalf of your sender domain. Your application only needs the server address, port, username and password. The relay service takes care of encryption, DKIM signing, queuing and your reputation with receiving mail servers.

Do I need technical knowledge?

No. You enter the SMTP credentials in your device or software. We help you with the DNS configuration.

Does MailBridge work with Microsoft 365?

Yes. MailBridge takes over exactly the sending that M365 blocks once Basic Auth is switched off. Scanners, ERP systems and the like work again. The background and every option are covered in our guide to Microsoft 365.

Can I send transactional email from my application?

Yes. Invoices, order confirmations, password emails and appointment reminders are the typical use case. Your application speaks plain SMTP on port 587 with STARTTLS. You need no API and no extra library.

Is an SMTP relay worth it compared to running your own mail server?

Your own mail server mostly costs time: building IP reputation, watching blacklists, rotating DKIM keys, processing bounces, installing security updates. An SMTP relay takes this work off your hands and keeps your sender domain. You can keep running your internal mail server; it then simply delivers through the relay. The detailed trade-off is in our guide on the topic.

How quickly can I get started?

Usually in under 15 minutes. The DNS changes may take a little longer, depending on your provider. The illustrated guide walks you through every step.

What does an SMTP relay hosted in Germany cost?

At MailBridge, between €4.90 for 500 emails and €59.90 for 50,000 emails a month, excl. VAT, and you can cancel monthly. Volumes above 50,000 emails are billed individually. There is no setup fee and there are no add-on modules: every plan includes the same features, only the volume differs.

Where are MailBridge's servers located?

All servers are located in Germany, in Hetzner's data centers in Nuremberg and Falkenstein. Your email and log data never leave Germany, and there is no data processing in third countries.

Is MailBridge ISO 27001 certified?

No. What is certified are the data centers that house our servers: Hetzner Online GmbH is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, and Nuremberg and Falkenstein are listed by name in the certificate annex (SOCOTEC Certification Deutschland, number ZN-2025-35, valid until September 26, 2028). On top of that, Hetzner holds an unqualified BSI C5 Type 2 attestation (C5 is the cloud security standard of Germany's Federal Office for Information Security). LOGIN SystemHaus GmbH, the company behind MailBridge, holds no ISO 27001 certificate of its own, and we don't claim otherwise.

Is MailBridge GDPR-compliant?

Yes. Servers located in Germany, no data transfers to third countries, TLS-encrypted transmission.

Do I get a data processing agreement and the TOM?

Yes. After signing in, you conclude the data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR in the portal under “Data protection & DPA”: enter your company details, confirm, done. You download the agreement there as a PDF with our signature, together with our technical and organisational measures (TOM). There is nothing to sign and send back, not even during the trial. Our only subprocessor is Hetzner in Nuremberg and Falkenstein.

Can I cancel monthly?

Yes. Monthly billing, no minimum term. You can cancel anytime, effective at the end of the billing period.

Can I try MailBridge for free?

Yes. Bridge is free for 14 days or 100 test emails, whichever comes first; the agency line gets 30 days or 500 test emails with up to 3 client projects. Sign up online, you only need payment details after the trial. If you'd rather have us set it up for you, write to start@mailbridge.email.

What happens if I go over my email allowance?

We bill extra emails automatically at €2.90 per 1,000, so your email keeps going out. As a cost cap, sending pauses if your overage gets unusually high: you release it with one click in the portal or switch to another plan. That way your bill can never run away from you unnoticed.

Which plan is right for me?

Count your emails per month and pick the matching Bridge plan, from Bridge 500 to Bridge 50K. Every plan includes the same features, only the volume differs. If your estimate is off, you can switch plans later with one click in the portal. More than 50,000 emails a month? Then Bridge Enterprise is the right fit: a dedicated relay with its own sending IP, a dedicated contact person and guided onboarding. If you're unsure, we'll give you quick advice.

Do you have an offer for agencies?

Yes: the agency line. One contract for all client projects, in four tiers: Agency 10K for €29.90, Agency 25K for €54.90, Agency 50K for €89.90 and Agency 100K for €149.90 a month. You distribute the volume freely across all your clients. Beyond that, €9.90 per additional 5,000 emails is billed automatically, with a 10% grace margin on your volume. You switch tiers yourself in the portal. That is also where you create clients with their own domain and their own SMTP credentials, pause individual clients and see usage and proportional costs per client, exportable as an Excel-compatible CSV file and available for the past 12 months. You create the agency account yourself; when you do, choose “Several client projects on client domains”. Prefer to talk first? start@mailbridge.email
